Huckleberry Trail Cleanup
The Huckleberry Trail Cleanup was a recurring event that took place on the Sunday after four different Home Football games. The dates were September 15th, October 13th, October 20th, and November 10th. Each event had 15 student volunteers and lasted for two hours. The volunteers started at Lee Hall and walked to the beginning of the trail by the Blacksburg Police Department. Once on the trail, all volunteers were equipped with bags and gloves. From there, the trail lasted about 1.5 miles and made its way downtown, behind the athletic facilities, and through the woods behind Lane Stadium.
During each occurrence of the event, about three bags of recycling and trash were collected by the students. Many of those who attended enjoyed it so much they signed up for subsequent occurrences. The Service Learning Committee has planned this event for Galipatia in past years as well, and it has always been a very successful event. Other clean-up events have been done as well including Cascades Clean-up, Duck Pond Clean-up, and Campus Clean-up. Be sure to look out for the Spring Game Clean-up event most likely to occur on the Sunday following the Spring Football Game!
